Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an incredibly powerful technique for clearing out trauma. It uses a form of bilateral stimulation (alternating stimulation to the left and right side of the body) to release the traumas that are sabotaging your life and blocking your growth.
When an upsetting event occurs and we feel alone in the experience (a trauma), our brain fragments the experience and registers parts of it in the right hemisphere (the sensory experience of it – sights, smells, images and sensations) and parts in the left hemisphere (the storyline). When this occurs, the experience remains unchanged throughout life even as we mature. Throughout life, the unchanged experience reappears as it becomes triggered by daily experiences.
During an EMDR session we will gently tune into a single snapshot of the traumatic experience, as it is registered in your mind, and use bilateral stimulation in the form of crossed arms over your chest and gentle alternating tapping (we call this the butterfly hug) to process and release the trauma. The bilateral stimulation of EMDR helps the two hemispheres communicate so that the experience of the right hemisphere can be verbalized by the left hemisphere and integrated back into the mature self. EMDR can be used to clear out a specific trauma or to create a deeper understanding of current life difficulties by finding their source.
EMDR can be used for small, medium or large traumas. It is safe, gentle and effective and can be done in office or online. EMDR can be booked for one hour, one and a half hours or two-hour sessions.
The fee for EMDR is $200 (plus tax) / hour
